Welcome to Petal Kitchen

Hi, I’m Sarah Mitchell, and I’m so glad you’ve found your way to Petal Kitchen! This is a space where seasonal ingredients meet simple techniques, where cooking is a celebration rather than a chore, and where every recipe is crafted with love and tested in a real family kitchen—mine.

Whether you’re here for a quick weeknight dinner solution, a show-stopping dessert, or just some culinary inspiration, I’m thrilled to have you join our growing community of home cooks who believe that great food doesn’t have to be complicated.

Our Story

Sarah’s culinary journey began not in a warm, cozy kitchen, but in a small college apartment with a single burner hot plate and a dream of eating something—anything—other than instant ramen. As a university student far from home in Melbourne, Australia, she called her mom one Sunday afternoon, homesick and hungry, asking how to make the simplest comfort food: her mom’s tomato pasta.

That phone call changed everything. What started as survival cooking quickly blossomed into genuine passion. Sarah began experimenting with the fresh produce from the weekend farmers’ markets near campus, discovering that cooking with seasonal ingredients wasn’t just economical—it made everything taste better. The sweet summer tomatoes, the earthy autumn mushrooms, the crisp winter greens—each season offered its own palette of flavors.

After graduating and moving to Vancouver, Sarah continued her culinary education through trial, error, and countless dinner parties with friends who became her willing taste-testers. When friends started asking for recipes and cooking tips, Petal Kitchen was born—a digital garden where seasonal recipes could bloom and be shared with others who wanted to cook with confidence and joy.

Our Philosophy

At Petal Kitchen, we believe that cooking should be accessible, joyful, and grounded in the rhythms of nature. Our philosophy is simple:

Seasonal First: We cook with what’s fresh and in season, celebrating ingredients at their peak flavor while supporting sustainable food practices.

Real Life Cooking: Every recipe is developed in Sarah’s actual home kitchen and tested with real family schedules in mind. No specialty equipment or impossible-to-find ingredients required.

Flexibility Over Perfection: Cooking is creative, not rigid. We encourage substitutions, adaptations, and making recipes your own.

From Our Kitchen to Yours: Food is about connection. Each recipe comes with tips, stories, and the kind of guidance you’d get from a friend cooking alongside you.

Meet Sarah

When she’s not in the kitchen developing new recipes, Sarah can be found exploring farmers’ markets with her reusable totes, tending her small herb garden on the balcony, or enjoying long dinners with friends where the conversation flows as freely as the wine. She’s a firm believer that the best meals are the ones shared with people you love, even if they’re imperfectly executed.

Sarah lives in Vancouver with her partner and their very food-motivated rescue dog, who has perfected the art of the guilt-inducing stare during meal prep. Her cooking style reflects her belief that food should be nourishing, delicious, and never stressful.
